Child Anxiety Leads To Adult Anxiety

I have just read an  article examining child OCD in which the cases of three lovely young woman all suffering from different child anxiety disorders, are briefly looked at.

They are Emily Hawling, whose problem is probably rooted in being too worried about what others think of her, though it doesn’t actually say so.

Kailey Schlosser who is acutely afraid of germ contamination so she washed hands until they are raw and Alissa Welker, who suffers from emetophobia.

Alissa was so petrified of being sick and so afraid of getting food poisoning which would make her sick, she got to a point of hardly eating at all

All three suffer from child anxiety disorders which are unlikely to go away without parental help.

Child Anxiety Support From Peers

I found it interesting that the three girls have formed a self support group to cheer each other on when the going gets tough. Also luckily in these three cases parents have stepped in and sought help, because if these disorders are not addressed now, they will continue to rule and often ruin childhood then adulthood.

A colleague and friend was emetophobic to the point she was so afraid of morning sickness she refused to have children – it nearly cost her a wonderful husband and their marriage.

She took  finally took control and sought help (or I wouldn’t be a godmother!). Would you believe it, no morning sickness at all, though the kids have obliged and tested her new cured self a few times since that!

I’m so pleased to see that at last anxiety disorders are being recognised as probably starting in childhood, where they can be very successfully treated before life chances, including having a family, are taken over by a disorder that once recognised is so treatable.
